“Lost on Friendship’s Path” by Marisa Crawford (age 9)

for Stephanie Radner, 1992

Friendship is like a burning fire.
You must use it before it fades.
A friend may leave you without desire
with memories from other grades.

You’ll see a picture, and tears will drop.
You’ll remember the jokes were funny.
And all the things she made for you.
A drawing of a silly bunny.

First and favorite happy face.
She would understand.
Friendships that were a disgrace,
but ours was always grand.

You may be crying, and be sad
because someone’s missing under the tree.
But you must let it go, and be glad
because best friends are you and me.
